Create a scenario as per the screenshot below:

Settings done to create the network are:

  • Application Properties
    • Application Type: FTP
    • File size – 1,50,000,000 Bytes
    • IAT = 1s
    • Start Time = 0s
    • End Time = 1s
  • Bit Error Rate = 0 (both links)
  • TCP – Enabled with congestion control algorithm – New Reno
  • Enable Packet Trace and Plots
  • Simulation Time = 100s

Run the simulation and see the Application Throughput Plot

Note: File Transfer starts at APP_Start_Time, that is, at 0s.

From the above screenshot, users can observe that Packet Transmission starts at 0s and ends at 12.6s. The file first gets fragmented per the TCP MSS of 1460B and hence into 102740 segments.

Since there is no error a maximum throughput of 95 Mbps is reached for this FTP.

Users can also vary the bit error rate in links and the propagation delay in the links and study its impact on application performance
