NetSim licenses can be administered using the license manager portal that can be accessed via any web browser. To reserve one license of all components for a specific user an RLM Options(tetcos.opt) file needs to be created as explained below:

Step 1: In the system running the license server (i.e, the system to which NetSim dongle is connected), open Notepad and write the following command

RESERVE 1 netsim_acad  internet <Ip address>

RESERVE 1 netsim_std_1 internet <Ip address>

RESERVE 1 netsim_std_2 internet <Ip address>

RESERVE 1 netsim_std_3 internet <Ip address>

RESERVE 1 netsim_std_4 internet <Ip address>

RESERVE 1 netsim_std_5 internet <Ip address>

RESERVE 1 netsim_std_6 internet <Ip address>

RESERVE 1 netsim_std_7 internet <Ip address>

RESERVE 1 netsim_std_8 internet <Ip address>

RESERVE 1 netsim_std_9 internet <Ip address>

RESERVE 1 netsim_emulator internet <Ip address>

Where <IP Address> can be the IP address of the system for which a license needs to be reserved.

For Eg: RESERVE 1 netsim_emulator internet 192.168.0.15

Step 2:  Also reservation of the license can Network-Specific not only host-specific.

Example reservation to a specific Network like 192.168.0.0/24, then the options file will be like

RESERVE <N.O.L> <component-name> internet <Network-address>.* (Use an asterisk (*) in place of the Host Address.)

    Eg: RESERVE 5 netsim_acad internet 192.168.0.*

Step 3: Save the file in the "NetSim License Server" directory (the folder which contains NetSim license files, rlm.exe, tetcos.exe) with the name "tetcos.opt". A sample tetcos.opt file is attached with this mail.

Step 4: Run rlm.exe (If rlm.exe is already running, close and rerun)

Step 5: Further if there is any change in the IP Address or in the Option rules, it can be edited directly from the license administration portal via any browser.  In the RLM web server (http://Server-IP:5054)

  • Click on the Status button which is the first in the list of options to the left of the portal.
  • Further, click on the "tetcos" button beneath OPTIONS in the table displayed after that.
  • You will be able to see the contents of the tetcos.opt file that you had placed in the NetSim License Server folder along with the license file and rlm earlier.
  • You can make any edits directly from here as per your requirement.

Here you can edit further if there is any change in IP or number of license.

The general format is
RESERVE <N.O.L> <component-name> internet <IP-address>

Here
RESERVE- is a keyword to reserve
N.O.L- Number of Licenses that needed to be reserved
Internet - Keyword to give the IP address
IP-address- IP address of the system that needed to be reserved

Step 6: To cross-check the Reserved License using the RLM web server (http://Server-IP:5054) For Eg: http://192.168.0.9:5054
Click on the Status button which is the first in the list of options to the left of the portal.
Further, click on the "tetcos" button beneath SERVER STATUS in the table displayed after that.

Here you can see one of all component license is listed under the res (reserved) column:
