In NetSim users can save the network configuration done in GUI even before and after the simulation.
Saving the network before simulation:
- The network can be saved from File -> Save or using CTRL+S Key combination.
- NetSim provides you with an option to choose the appropriate name for the experiment to be saved inside the experiment folder as shown below:
- The experiment will be saved inside the current workspace.
- Upon saving the scenario a folder as specified in the Experiment Name text box will be created in the current workspace. This folder will contain the Configuration file (Configuration.netsim) Refer NetSim Configuration file for further details.
- The Configuration.netsim file can be used to open in NetSim by double-clicking on it or via the Your Work option present in NetSim Home Screen. This may be required to edit or re-run the network scenario again.
Saving the network after simulation:
- After Simulation, users can save the network scenario along with the associated files using either of the following:
- File-> save option
- File-> Save-As option
- Upon saving the scenario a folder as specified in the Experiment Name text box will be created in the current workspace. This folder will contain:
- Configuration file (Configuration.netsim) - Refer NetSim Configuration file for further details
- Screenshot of the network scenario created(Scenario.png)
- Packet Trace file (Packet Trace.csv) - Will be created if Packet Trace is enabled before simulation
- Event Trace file (Event Trace.csv) - Will be created if Event Trace is enabled before simulation
- Log Text files
- Animation Text files (Animation*.txt) - Used for displaying animation in NetSim Packet Animation Window if animation is enabled
- Throughput plot log files (Plot_*.txt) - Will be created if Dynamic Metrics is enabled before simulation
- Spanning Tree log (SpanningTree.txt) - Will be created if the network consists of at least one switch. As part of Spanning Tree Protocol(STP)
- StaticARP Text files (StaticARP.txt) - Will be created as part of the ARP protocol
- Animation XML file (Animation.xml) - Used for displaying animation in NetSim Packet Animation Window if animation is enabled
- Wireshark Capture files (*.pcap) - Will be created if Wireshark is enabled in the nodes or if the emulation application is configured.
